Mathgoras 3D mobile game makes learning fascinating

‘Gaming is fun but studying is boring’ is a common remark from students. But, we cannot let our young generation get consumed by random games. Education is a powerful weapon and it is our responsibility to make young minds understand this. Several methods have been set forth to make learning more interesting, and the most successful among these are the mobile games incorporating the school syllabus.

Mathgoras is a 3D mobile game that deepens the logical thinking of children in primary schools. They need to perform a logical-mathematical task in each round. However, these tasks are not classic logical puzzles, riddles or sudoku. That is what makes it unique in the market. It also helps children to connect with their everyday life. Learn more about this gaming app through our interview with Petr Meca, CEO, Mathgoras.

What is the startup / product / venture about? Give us a brief description of it.

It is a 3D mobile game that deepens the logical thinking of children in primary schools. Using a selected character, the child walks through an island called Mathgoras and performs a logical mathematical task in each round.

However, these tasks are not classic logical puzzles, riddles or various sudoku, it’s not completing logical series, etc. The tasks are focused on logical thinking associated with everyday life. The aim of the game is to awaken the logical thinking of children so that they can cope in everyday life.

How many co-founders are there? Please introduce them and their backgrounds.

We are 2 co-funders. I focus on the complete development of the game, which includes all the work from creating 3D models, programming to inventing individual logical tasks in the game.
I´ve been dealing with 3D graphics since high school, when I started to create various animations and visualizations. This helped me to get a job for a local TV station as a 3D graphic designer. Over time, I started programming and creating websites. Soon after that my brother and I set up a company, the main focus of which was developing complex systems for large companies.  In addition, I graduated from a university in the field of applied mathematics and after 10 years of programming with my brother and having three kids the idea for the game Mathgoras came to my mind. It contains everything I have learned in my life (3D graphics, programming, mathematics, logic).

My colleague Michal is an e-com agency founder and a father of two. Joining the Mathgoras project was a no-brainer because of the tremendous potential and positive impact he saw in the app. He’s currently helping with marketing, e-com activities, all the boring paperwork, and working on potential strategic partnerships.

How did you come up with the idea? What motivated you to do this?

The first thoughts came when I was inspired by a friend, who is homeschooling his children with his wife, and I liked the way they teach them math, and since then I have only had thoughts of moving this forward, and I started to create an adventure game called Mathgoras.

I realized that a person can be as intelligent as possible, but even then, there may be situations, at which they find themselves at loose ends. And when they get in such a situation, and want to solve it, they must be able to deal with it. In order to do so, it is needed that they think logically. And I would like to develop such logical thinking in children in primary schools, by using a fun mobile game, where individual tasks are connected with the child’s everyday life

Who is your target market? Why do you think your product will appeal to them?

Parents of children aged from 5 to 12 years are my target group. I think that for everyone’s future life it is very important to be able to think logically, and this game could support this in children at an early age. I think it will be successful not only for this reason, but also because it is not just an ordinary game. It has a certain meaning and thanks to it, children can learn in a fun way. The math is hidden in the game, so that children are unknowingly improving in it.

Who are your competitors? How are you different from them?

All mobile games that try to improve mathematics and logical thinking in children are my competitors. However, in these applications you will always find equations, examples, mathematical symbols, etc. My game is unique in the market in a way that all mathematical tasks are hidden in given tasks, so that each task is connected with children’s everyday life. The children solve tasks in the game, which they may experience when they are out with friends or at home with their parents, etc. These include overcoming obstacles, cleaning, helping parents, as well as love and concern for animals. In this way, each child can then recall the task from the game in everyday life and, thanks to it, manage the given situation.

What are the future plans with the product/startup? Any new features you are planning on?

The game currently contains 2 complete levels. Each level has 10 unique rounds and each round has 5 difficulties. So now it contains a total of 100 rounds. Our plan is that in April 2022 the game will have a total of 5 levels, which equals 250 rounds. After that we will gradually add more bonus rounds to the game.
