The Click Reader came into being with the vision of making it possible for anyone wanting to study data science to do so without restrictions. It is an all-inclusive educational platform that offers a pre-planned curriculum to learn data science with Python. The Click Reader offers all data science aspirants the opportunity to embark on their learning journey without worries.
In conversation with The Click Reader’s Co-founder Merishna, we learn more about this venture and the team’s drive to educate the masses on data science.
What is the startup/product about? Give us a brief description of it.
The Click Reader is an all-inclusive educational platform that provides a well-curated data science specialization track with Python.
Students can enroll in the specialization track for free and immediately start studying data science no matter where they are in the world. At the moment, we also have a global community of about 100 people who are actively engaging in learning discussions surrounding the courses hosted on our platform.
We created The Click Reader with a drive to become a substitute for physical data science universities. We are not there yet but that is the vision behind the product.
How many co-founders are there? Please introduce them and their backgrounds. If there are multiple co-founders, please mention how did you meet one another
The product has three co-founders: Pragyan Subedi, Suyog Dahal, and Merishna Singh Suwal. All of the three co-founders are full-time professional data scientists who share a common interest in educating about data science to the masses.
Talking about our backgrounds, Pragyan has years of experience working with both startups as well as corporate businesses and his expertise lies in innovating in-house and off-shore business processes through the use of data. He is also listed as one of the top 3% freelancing data scientists in the world at Toptal.
Suyog has a solid background in performing Exploratory Data Analysis and he loves spending hours on analyzing and understanding large multi-dimensional datasets. He is a programmer by heart and is also a soon-to-be computer engineering graduate.
I, personally come from a Computer Vision background where I used to build complex image processing models. Now my expertise lies in building powerful cross-dimensional Machine Learning and Deep Learning models for deployment in real-life use cases.
Pragyan and I met each other about 5 years back when we were pursuing our computer engineering degree together. Both of us were classmates and our paths truly aligned when we knew we wanted to become full-fledged data scientists. As a result, we started working on multiple data science projects together and we even ran a pro-bono data science class for our juniors in the university.
Lucky for us, Suyog was a student in the same class and he immediately came off as a hard-working guy. I vividly remember that when Pragyan had asked the class about who they thought was the best programmer amongst the group, the answer came unanimously as Suyog. Hence, when we decided to start our company a year down the line, Suyog was a natural pick for us.
How did you come up with the idea? What motivated you to do this?
After actively teaching more than 300+ data science aspirants in Kathmandu alone, our hunger to drive more impact led us to building The Click Reader.
Our motive has always been to provide our students with a fair opportunity to start their journey in data science no matter which community they belonged to. As self-taught data scientists and third-world citizens, we knew first-hand that not a lot of people are in a position to afford a university-based data science education. This is the sole reason why all of our course content has been made available for free and is readable on all devices.
Ever since our launch two weeks back, we have received hundreds of thank you messages from students all around the globe. We know that we are creating impact at scale and this motivates us to constantly make the platform better.
Who is your target market? Why do you think your product will appeal to them?
Our product is targeted towards data science aspirants, mostly students who are looking to start their journey in data science.
We currently have nine free courses under the data science specialization track ranging from learning how to code using Python to building Deep Neural Networks with TensorFlow 2.0. We also have an engaging community where students can be a part of and connect with other fellow students to learn collaboratively.
Apart from the course materials itself, the platform hosts a series of interesting reads and tutorials on how data science is being implemented in the real world.
What are the future plans with the product/startup? Any new features you are planning on?
We have been continuously working on improving the quality of the content of the product as well as introducing new courses to the platform. We are also receiving a lot of guest contributions so we are working on publishing and maintaining them as well.
As for our future plans, we are working on making The Click Reader as a one-stop educational platform for all data science aspirants.
