Fireflies.ai is an AI Assistant for Your Meetings to Record, Transcribe and Search across your voice conversations

The whole point of meetings is to share relevant ideas, come up with solutions to problems, and discuss it in detail. While the agenda of meetings can be different, the objective is the same. However, when a meeting gets over, looking back at the essential pointers is a tricky task if you have no notes or pointers for it. Recordings can be used, but then surfing hours of recorded content is a painstaking task.

To reduce the burden extensively, Fireflies.ai comes into the picture. They are a company that offers a unique way to record meetings and transcribe them. The tool helps in effectively recording, transcribing, and searching relevant information of the meetings with ease. Venture Mirror had the unique opportunity to speak with the CEO of Fireflies.ai and learn more about the company in detail. Learn what they had to tell from the interview illustrated below.

What is the startup / product / venture about? Give us a brief description of it.

Fireflies is an AI voice-assistant that automatically records, transcribes and takes notes for meetings. Our goal is to make post meeting collaboration seamless and automate work inside the systems where you are already spending time, whether that is CRMs, project management systems, or other collaboration platforms.

How many co-founders are there? Please introduce them and their backgrounds.

I started Fireflies with Sam Udotong who is our co-founder & CTO. He is an MIT grad where he studied Aeronautical Engineering & Computer Science. Sam’s background includes work across Machine Learning, Neural Nets, and Self Driving Drones.

How did you come up with the idea? What motivated you to do this?

70% of the workforce spends time in meetings every week. Collectively, an entire organization will use up 15-20% of their productive time in meetings, phone calls, and presentations. With more companies adopting remote work, this number is only going to rise. No one likes having to repeat what was said in meetings after the fact or have the same redundant meetings over and over again. A 1 hour meeting with 5 people can cost an org $400 in terms of time spent. We’re on a mission to ensure all that important knowledge isn’t lost post-meeting. Fireflies makes post meeting collaboration easy with recaps, meeting notes, and integrations into popular platforms like Salesforce, Slack, Teams, etc.

Who is your target market? Why do you think your product will appeal to them?

Anyone in the workplace who has meetings or collaborates via video-conferencing. Fireflies is rapidly being adopted by remote teams to collaborate in a more seamless manner.

Who are your competitors? How are you different from them?

Sales Enablement companies like Gong.io and Chorus.ai use voice technology for sales training and coaching. Fireflies is built for every user in the workplace, not just sales. Engineers, PMs, recruiters, sales, customer success, and every other department in an org use Fireflies. We focus on collaboration, workflows, and helping people turn conversations into actions in the places where they work.

What are the future plans with the product/startup? Any new features you are planning on?

We’re expanding the surface area of Fireflies from not just video-conferencing but also phone systems and dialers. We now support automated note taking on platforms like Aircall, Salesloft, Outreach and Ringcentral.
