Project management platforms are a collaboration tool that are massively used by business and companies in regulating projects and streamlining the overall operations. However, not every field is equipped with a robust project management platform and the production industry is one such example. While there are a few out there, they don’t come anywhere close to what “Assemble” has to offer. 

Assemble is a company that offers a project management platform for content creators, producers and video producers in general. It’s a collaboration tool specifically adhered towards the production industry. Venture Mirror had a small discussion with Nate Watkin, CEO of Assemble to know more about the company. What is the startup / product / venture about? Give us a brief description of it.

Assemble is a project management platform for content creators. We provide video producers the collaboration tools they need to streamline their team’s work, including production calendars, task lists, file sharing and advanced feedback tools.

How did you come up with the idea? What motivated you to do this?

As a producer for eight years I learned the ins and outs of the industry as well as the pains that producers face on a daily basis. The clearest pain to me was the lack of productivity tools for our industry. Nearly every industry has a project management platform specifically built for their workflow, yet film production (one of the most complex industries with the most moving parts) had none. I felt that there was a massive market need in a rapidly growing market segment that we could fill, so we set out to build it.

Who is your target market? Why do you think your product will appeal to them?

We target content producers of all stripes. Our platform supports everyone from boutique production companies, to agencies, to in-house production teams at major brands. We also have many filmmakers working on traditional scripted or unscripted content using our tools. Overall, it’s our goal to provide the de facto industry standard tool for the production world.

Who are your competitors? How are you different from them?

On a broad scale we compete with many of the large project management platforms, such as Asana, Monday, Trello and others. We also compete with tools such as Google Calendar, Docs, and things of that nature. We’re differentiated because we are highly verticalized for our industry and have built our tools around the producer’s needs and workflows. We can hone in and focus on one type of customer, rather than trying to be everything to everybody. And ultimately it’s our goal to integrate with these other great platforms to help Assemble exist symbiotically in the broader productivity landscape.

What are the future plans with the product/startup? Any new features you are planning on?

We are constantly building new features and have a lot of exciting releases on the roadmap this year. Ultimately, we’re focused on the future of remote work for our industry, and are investing in features and tools that can help bring people closer together as the world moves farther apart. We’re big believers in the new remote world and we think it opens up a whole new world of opportunities for the filmmaking community. We want to be the driving force behind expanding our industry’s horizons.
