Onsite.fun book and manage your company’s team-building activities with the best offering.

Life after the pandemic has changed our lives to the fullest of extent. It’s where companies are opting for a work from home culture and adapting to the new normal. Speaking about a “new normal” team building activities are taking a hit and aren’t possible through video calls where things can get a bit disconnected. To change this, there is a company called Onsite.fun that aims to deliver a unique way of fun online activities.

Onsite.fun is an online marketplace that offers a plethora of activities for a fun and engaging experience amongst your team members. Every activity is different from one another, and the company provides a centralized manner through which controlling every activity booked is played out in the best possible scenario. With an extraordinary approach towards team building activities, Venture Mirror had the opportunity to interact with Joan Alavedra, Co-founder & CEO of Onsite.fun and all the details of our conversation are provided below.

What is the startup / product / venture about? Give us a brief description of it.

Onsite.fun, a marketplace of curated online experiences (Team building, anniversary, company milestones, etc.) to be booked without friction and completely instantaneously. We also offer a centralized platform for a company-wide overview of departments, managing/budgeting tools for admins to reduce the burden of booking activities.

How many co-founders are there? Please introduce them and their backgrounds.

Jaume and Joan are siblings with very complementary skills and developed networks in engineering and business fields. Jaume has a background in engineering and CS (DTU), with previous experience in IoT and cryptography. Joan has an engineering background and business (HEC Paris). A generalist with experience in finance and product. Previously, I worked in the VC industry and helped to start a DTC brand in the skincare sector in Berlin.

Worked in previous project together (PeerPull). Great understanding on how critical team culture is for distributed teams and how challenging it is to create and maintain culture whilst distributed because of previous experiences.

How did you come up with the idea? What motivated you to do this?

While I was working in a DTC startup in Berlin last year, the pandemic hit so hard I moved to Barcelona as I was afraid the situation would endanger my situation in the city. When that happened there was a common feeling around the team. Beers on Friday evenings have been replaced by awkward “Zoom happy hours.” It’s become harder to build culture and camaraderie

Who is your target market? Why do you think your product will appeal to them?

From Team Leaders, People Ops or Workplace Managers, the solution is very appealing for managers that are looking for an all-round solution for the organization’s culture. We are targeting remote-first companies. Teams that are on board virtually and borderless are successful customers.

Who are your competitors? How are you different from them?

The market is very fragmented and mature. From thousands of local event planners, there is no clear winner in the space. Scattered and without a strong brand recognition there is an opportunity to consolidate as a one-stop-shop of reference.

Other modern platforms have also seen the opportunity, Airbnb Experience moving online and creating a collection of team building activities, or a venture studio developing a service called Nicebreak have also jumped to solve the current issue.

What are the future plans with the product/startup? Any new features you are planning on?

We want to further develop the SaaS offering to encompass not only budgeting or invoicing but also integrating other tools used by the People Ops department, such as communication tools, payrolls, budget reporting, etc. That will scale our growth opportunities.

We believe our greatest opportunities lies around memberships and the capacity to bundle monthly activities based on the teams’ needs. The need to develop human bonding and share experiences will create a psychological safety net for the coworkers.
